Current job: Senior Manager at Amgen

What life experiences may have led you to a career in STEM?
For as far as I can remember, I always have been intrigued and amazed by life. I studied biology and chemistry at school to better understand the mechanisms of life (cellular interactions, biochemical reactions, etc.) I didn’t know to which career this could lead but I really wanted my passion for science to be useful. I had the opportunity to conduct my master thesis in a healthcare company in Belgium and this is how I understood I wanted to leverage my passion for science to have an impact for patients.

What are some fun and interesting facts about your life with which students might identify?
I grew up in Belgium and French is my native tongue. I took English as a foreign language in middle and high school. I was very shy, and it was very difficult for me to speak in English in front of my class. I didn’t know at the time that I would move to the USA, and work, teach and give seminars in English.

What other other things should students know about you?
I am very happy that my passion became my career. This took (and still takes) a lot of work and I continue learning new things every day.
